The focus of the whole school nurture approach for learning award is learning and achievement.

Service Description
Delegates will: Gain an understanding of the importance of meeting children and young people’s social, emotional, and cognitive needs to enhance learning and achievement. Gain an understanding of how children’s brains develop so that interventions target the causal factor and improve effectiveness of the support given to individual children and young people. Be able to use neuroscientific knowledge to enhance teaching and learning. Gain an understanding of how the Developmental Portrait can support teachers in the identification of barriers to learning and effective interventions to improve learning. Gain an understanding of how to plan to meet the social, emotional, and cognitive needs of whole class, groups and individual children and young people. Consider how mental health can be enhanced for all members of the school community. The six nurture principles for learning will be embedded throughout the school setting, during a twelve-month journey. Settings will complete an assessment demonstrating impact on the culture of learning and achievement, mental health and wellbeing, attendance, and behaviour. To achieve the award, you will evidence that nurture principles for learning are evident throughout policy, consistently applied and embedded throughout practice within the school. Evidence of impact will be demonstrated, for example: pupils’ developmental needs are met within a graduated approach.
