Service Description

Delegates will gain an understanding over a four week course of: How social, emotional, and cognitive skills develop and how experiences can interrupt or enhance development. How to identify gaps in social, emotional, and cognitive development. How to match strategies and interventions to meet the social, emotional, and cognitive needs of children and young people. Delegates will: Be able to use neuroscientific knowledge to enhance teaching and learning. Gain an understanding of how the Developmental Portrait can support teachers to remove barriers to learning. Gain an understanding of how to use the data from the Developmental Portrait to inform planning of effective interventions to meet the targeted needs of: - Whole Class. - Groups. - Individual children and young people. MODULE 1 (Virtual session, 3 hours) Introduction What do we mean by a nurture intervention? The six nurture principles for learning MODULE 2 (Virtual session, 3 hours) Neuroscience and the child Attachment The six nurture principles for learning Developmental Portrait Creating an accurate portrait of children’s social, emotional, and cognitive development Development related to learning MODULE 3 (Virtual session, 3 hours) Sensory Difficulties Strategies to plan for and respond to sensory needs effectively in the classroom MODULE 4 (Virtual session, 3 hours) Integrating the developmental needs of individual children into the curriculum Planning and developing nurture interventions in the classroom Assignment ​ SIX MONTH REVIEW (Virtual session, 3 hours) Opportunity to share practiceand develop next steps ASSESSMENT Assignment To achieve the award, you will attend the training and demonstrate, via set tasks, that the delivery of the curriculum in the classroom/full time nurture intervention room embraces the Nurture principles for learning. Evidence of positive impact on the learning and achievement of pupils. Participants will be given access to the Developmental Portrait for the duration of the programme.
